One of the many benefits of Trinity’s location in Downtown Orlando is our proximity to an endless number of field trip opportunities, many at locations where Trinity parents are employed. Trinity Lutheran School’s “Little Explorers” in VPK recently took a special trip to explore the Orlando Sentinel. Mr. Lance Willingham, Building Operations/Security Manager at the Orlando Sentinel, arranged a behind-the-scenes VIP tour of the editorial, advertising, production, and packaging departments, and allowed our students to see firsthand how a newspaper is put together. We even got to see thousands of Black Friday advertisements flying through the air as they were being printed (no peeking allowed though!). The students also learned about how the Sentinel recycles all leftover paper and aluminum plates. Their motto is “waste nothing!”
At the end of this fantastic tour, each student was given an Orlando Sentinel towel, some cool new shades and a very special gift from Mr. Willingham – an origami newspaper hat crafted from the “funny papers.” Mr. Willingham personally took the time to make a hat for each student. Way to go Mr. Willingham, our class thanks you! What a blessing we have in our Trinity parents, Downtown Orlando sponsors and ministry partners, who share with our young children all the great things happening in our Downtown Orlando community!
