Students in Kindergarten through 4th grade attend music class twice a week where they utilize, among many other instruments, recorders, Orff instruments, and percussion instruments. Students spend the majority of each class singing songs ranging from nursery rhymes and poems to patriotic songs and hymns. Their voices are featured annually at Trinity Lutheran Church and School’s Christmas program, “The Gift”.
Students in first and second grade are challenged daily with rhythmic and solfege games. These games prepare them for “Recorder Karate”, a third and fourth grade program that has shown great success at Trinity. Through these various methods of instruction, students demonstrate a much greater appreciation for the art, realize that these musical gifts are God-given, and are better prepared for performance in middle school music electives.
